We are so proud of She’s the Geek for winning best Science and Technology Blog at the SA Blog Awards 2010 held on Saturday evening at the One & Only Hotel in the Waterfront. It was a memorable night, not only because the SA Blog Awards pulled out all the stops but because the top bloggers in South Africa were all together in one room.

The nominees were buzzing with excitement and glad to finally put a face to the online persona that many have only seen. It’s a bit strange to form a bond and relationship with someone via social media and only communicate using that medium for a long time, then to see them in person and not know how to act. It is a pleasant surprise when they are the same online as offline. But that’s all part of the beauty of social media!

The question was asked: what’s next for She’s the Geek? Well we just have to follow and keep up with her to find out!

Google Instant saves the day! September 8, 2010

I was searching the internet earlier this evening using Google search. There was nothing new or different to the website, but a few hours later just like magic there is something new!

It’s called Google Instant. When searching in Google, while still typing your key words, links to possible sites automatically come up. You will see results instantly and can alter your search accordingly. As You have to be signed in to your Google account to use Google Instant.

This is sure to save you time. Google is really pushing boundaries and I can’t see anyone not using any Google Apps. How do you get through the day without either: Google Docs, Google Calendar, Gtalk, Gmail, Google Chrome or any other Google innovation?

The search is on…iPhoto September 7, 2010

The latter part of my day was spent playing around with iPhoto and Photobooth. I spent many hours playing with my iPhone and all it’s features, but even after receiving a MacBook from my husband as a get well gift over 2 months ago, I still spend more time on my iPhone than my Mac.

So this evening I decided to change that. After downloading some cool 3D Apple Wallpaper pics I wanted to create a slideshow and have music in the background. Well I could not figure out how to do all this on my iPhone so I switched on the Mac. After transferring all the pics into 1 folder and opening iPhoto, I discovered a whole new world. Exactly what I wanted: photos sliding in and out randomly across the screen at a pace set by me. And a nice surprise was that there is music preloaded in iPhoto. I found a song that is on the soundtrack of Twilight. Of course this was my first choice.

So after watching the Slideshow a couple of times with the music blaring and making Marlon watch it with me, I could transfer the pics to Flickr and Facebook. This was easy to do. But now I wanted to share the entire Slideshow with effects and music and all, with friends. For the life of me I could not export the slideshow as is! This is quite frustrating. I’m sure there is someone out there that knows how to do this! I will continue the search tomorrow, as one of my best friends is Google after all.
