Cracking open the iPhone May 5, 2010

I was doing some research on Apple and more specifically the iPhone as per usual and came across and interesting article on ZDNet published by Larry Dignan | July 14, 2008.

After reading through some stats on the first iPhone (original model) and iPhone 3G, I saw a very disturbing picture. One of the iPhone 3G disassembled!

I had to calm myself down and remind myself that it is only a picture and it was taken nearly 2 years ago. I’m not sure if I am prepared to experiment with my iPhone and dissassemble it and put it back together. Even if the article says it works perfectly afterward. I wonder how many people have done this just for the fun of it and not for research purposes?

I will definitely not be one of those people even though it would be interesting to see a live demonstation of this happening and seeing it actually been put back together and watch the ‘apple’ come back to life!

Lights on Lights off!

While watching TV on this rainy evening at home the lights go off all of a sudden. Quite scary as I was sitting alone in the lounge. It took me exactly 10 seconds to react and get into survival mode. Firstly I picked up my iPhone and used the Flashlight App for light. Found the candles and lit them.

After being satisfied that there is sufficient light in the house and checking up on Marlon and Kate (both of them were on Skype calls with their laptops and 3G modems) I sat down and entertained myself with some Apps on my phone. Thinking back it might be a strange sight to see 3 people sitting in the dark in seperate rooms and each one doing their own thing using their preferred technology.

When the door bell rang, I jumped up. It was our next door neighbours, an elderly couple walking around in their pj’s finding out if our lights are also off. Very funny sight seeing this couple wearing long night gowns and carrying a flash light and some sort of portable light in their hands ringing the neighbours doorbells. One good thing came out of and that is that I got to finally meet my neighbours after living here 8 months.

Back in the house both Skype conversations were carrying on in the dark as if nothing happened. Isn’t technology amazing?

Even though our lights may be on one minute and off the next. Technology is always there and we can choose how to use it. So thank you 3G for keeping us connected tonight.

Lights on Lights off!

1 apple at a time! May 2, 2010

Hello everyone (especially all the Apple lovers). I have been following the news and blogs about the ipad, new iphone and my favourite jailbroken iPhones.

There is too much information to share in one post, so will take 1 apple at a time!

Here is some news on OS 4:
100+ New User Features

With iPhone OS 4, iPhone owners will enjoy over 100 new features that make it easier to interact with apps, manage email, read books, and more. New features include the following:

Multitasking
*Developers will have access to seven multitasking services, which will allow tasks to be performed in the background while preserving performance and battery life. So you’ll be able to make a Voice over IP call while playing a game or checking email, find a restaurant on Urbanspoon while listening to Pandora, and more.

Folders
*Organize apps into folders with drag-and-drop simplicity. Get faster access to your favorites and browse and manage up to 2160 apps at once — many more than the current limit of 180 apps.

Even Better Mail
*See messages from all your email accounts displayed together in a unified inbox, switch between inboxes more quickly, organize messages by threads, and even open attachments in third-party apps.

iBooks
*The best way to browse, buy, and read books on a mobile device. Easily flip through the pages of a book you’ve downloaded from the iBookstore while listening to your music collection. Browse tens of thousands of books — many of them free — by title, author, or genre. You can even check out reviews and read sample pages before you buy.

Developers
*iPhone 4 SDK with developer tools.
With a rich set of over 1500 new APIs, the iPhone SDK 4 provides developers with a broad range of technologies to enhance the functionality of their iPhone and iPod touch applications. Developers can use these new APIs to make their apps more powerful, more feature rich, and more amazing than before. They can even use new GameKit APIs to develop for Game Center, the social gaming network Apple will launch later this year.

iAd
*iAd is a breakthrough mobile advertising platform from Apple. With it, apps can feature rich media ads that combine the emotion of TV with the interactivity of the web. For developers, it means a new, easy-to-implement source of revenue. For advertisers, it creates a new media outlet that offers consumers highly targeted information.

Enterprise
*iPhone OS 4 offers more useful features for businesses. With enhancements to security, scalability, and compatibility, IT managers have even more reasons to deploy iPhone throughout their enterprises.

iPhone OS 4 Compatibility

iPhone OS 4 will work with iPhone 3G, iPhone 3GS, and the second- and third-generation iPod touch this summer, and with iPad in the fall. Not all features are compatible with all devices. For example, multitasking is available only with iPhone 3GS and the third-generation iPod touch (32GB and 64GB models from late 2009).
